Writing Habits
What could possibly hamper writing?
You’ve found a few minutes, free from distractions. The mind is fresh with ideas, ready to tackle that empty page when along comes a distraction in the form of a two-year old granddaughter. She’s oblivious to what you had in mind and wants nothing more than to feel your arms around her. She cuddles and promptly falls asleep, leaving you to ponder the mysteries of a child’s simple life. The pen is poised on the page as your heart melts, not wanting to disrupt her sense of wellbeing.
Well, I can hold that thought for a bit until she decides to move on.
So, what's writer's block anyway?
Typically, writer's block is attributed to a writer/author, who finds himself (herself) in a state where the "creative juices" seemed to have dried up, leaving the author in a state of angst. With no fresh ideas, nothing to kindle the next chapter, it can lead to frustration, reproach, even doubt of your ability.
Don't panic if the words don't come. We've all been there.
In my case, when I've come close to facing that empty page on my computer, and holding the naysaying thoughts at bay I find that taking a break from routine often does the trick. Going for a walk or catching an engaging documentary or podcast will usually take my mind off those nagging thoughts that I'm producing dust on the page.
The whole point is not giving in to those nagging doubts. Keep at it, perfect your prose and keep reading to broaden your perspective.
What struggles have you dealt with when facing an empty page?

Love that pic of you and the granddaughter! :)
Wonderful, Robert! You have me chuckling out loud! You hit the nail on the head with ‘writers’ block’! Now enough with internet distractions and onto the next piece of writing! See you later!
